Bouche the Bullmastiff (10 weeks old)

So we got our puppy on Friday night. Currently we have him sleeping in a cardboard box but a wire dog crate is in the works. We were working on a name starting with Bishop but we then started calling him Bushi and have mostly settled on calling him Bouche (Boosh) which is french for mouth. I am impressed with this Bullmastiff so far. He's picking up his house training pretty well and starting to come when called. He can eat a ton and will be growing at a super fast pace. He was 25lbs when we picked him up and will probably be over 100lbs in less than 8 months. And when he's 2yrs old he should be settling in at his adult weight of about 150lbs. Donovan likes the dog and knows his name. I can't wait till he can be the one cleaning the poo.

Ah yes, big dogs = big poo.

I wonder if anyone has bothered to measure how much a mastiff eats in weight on average each day.

Or how much his poo weighs.

But more important, how is this dog getting along with the two yip-yips you have?

We don't have the yip yip pugs any longer.

He does eat a lot right now. I was surprised how much he can eat at a meal. His width doubles after a meal.

Hi :) you need to be careful with overfeeding mastiff breeds... large deep chested breeds are prone to bloat (where the stomach twists, requiring surgery and has quite a high fatality rate even with surgery)... his width shouldn't be doubling after a meal, instead he should be getting smaller meals more frequently :) my mum lost a 6 month old german shepherd to bloat and i'd hate for you to experience the same thing :( I have a 14 week old mastiff pup and he gets fed a reasonable meal 3/4 times a day... the stomach should never come out past the ribs and the hips should still be well defined, it's also a good idea to withold water for at least a half hour after feeding ;) good luck with your pup, he's lovely :)
